The Feature Base is the product of cooperation with the team of music scientists and represents the knowledge used for the analysis of handwriting from a historical music manuscript. A hierarchical structure maps the analysis procedure for identifying the handwriting characteristics. The knowledge base hierarchy can be regarded as a directed tree containing nodes of the following types:
Each node is represented by a dot notation, called feature code. It identifies and also describes the path from the root to the feature.
The feature values can be of the following types:
A list of all existing features can be found in the following feature table. A feature can also consist of multiple features, which gets a complex feature value.
The results of the handwriting analysis are the handwriting feature vectors which represent a set of feature values from the Feature Base reflecting the handwriting characteristics of the writer of a music score. These feature vectors are used consequently for the classification of writers. The feature base and the feature vectors including all its values are stored in the database. Under data model, all database schemas and all stored data are explained.
The graphic shows the hierarchy in the feature group "note flags" including its feature codes and feature values.
